Position Summary

Manager - Mount Isa Recovery Services

  • Full Time 38 hours/week
  • Fixed term to June 2020 in line with funding

Mount Isa Recovery Services (MIRS) provides a residential Drug, Alcohol and Gambling program for individuals.  RSC provide a safe, drug-free environment to help establish a healthier lifestyle, focus on the problems that underlie addiction. Through a range of programs MIRS is able to provide a culturally appropriate and holistic treatment service that will help achieve physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing via medical treatment, one-to-one and group and pastoral support, impart living skills to not only overcome addiction but to lead a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

About the role:

The Manager is responsible for all aspects of service delivery assessment and referral, case management, withdrawal management, education and other supports are provided in accordance with Recovery Services expectations with the purpose of achieving the Mission of The Salvation Army. Provide support to, and oversee the work performance of the service delivery team ensuring culturally appropriate and participant centred assessment person led approach is used.

Role Requirements:

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant field.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in and extensive knowledge of AOD/Gambling, Community Services and Health Sectors with at least three years’ leadership experience.
  • Experience working with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions.
  • Experience working in collaboration with other organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour utilising de-escalation techniques, including the ability to deal with problems associated with substance abuse, gambling and mental health conditions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check and Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Comply with The Salvation Army Organisational Code of Conduct which includes an alcohol, gambling and drug free workplace.
  • At least three years in recovery, if applicable.
  • Ability to develop and tailor programs to meet participants’ needs.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and evaluation skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to network, consult and negotiate with a range of internal and external participants and services.
  • Sound computer literacy
  • Energetic and flexible with a positive attitude
