About Us

The Salvation Army (TSA) Aged Care currently operates 2000 residential care places across 20 residential aged care facilities, seven retirement villages and approximately 480 Commonwealth Home Care Packages. As a leading faith based organisation, we take a person centred approach to care and are committed to meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each of our care recipients. At The Salvation Army we have a heart for people – a deep and powerful need to care for others. Our Better Practice and other international awards are a testament to the importance we place on providing the best care.

About the Role

We currently have a permanent full time vacancy for an Aged Care Area Manager, with responsibility for the operational performance of 7 Centres across NSW, QLD, VIC and TAS.  The rest of the senior leaders in the Residential Services team are based in Sydey but due to the wide geographic spread of Homes, we will consider candidates looking to be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

As an Area Manager you will be responsible for coaching and guiding the Centre Managers in your Region to operate mission focused, financially sustainable operations with a focus on best care for our residents.  Fostering positive relationships and utilising the expertise and skills of Support Services will be critical.  While your main focus will be managing residential operations, you will liaise closely with the senior managers of Home and Community Care and Retirement Living to ensure a consistent and integrated service provision across The Salvation Army Aged Care.

This is achieved by:

  • Ensuring the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army are authentically demonstrated in all that we do
  • Focussing on ageing well and delivering a service that strives to maintain and enhance the residents’ health and wellbeing, capabilities, independence, choice, privacy, dignity and safety.
  • Collaborating with other services and support teams within The Salvation Army
  • Working closely with the National ACFI Manager and ACFI Advisors to change the culture within the organization and improve ACFI revenue
  • Supporting the Centre Managers in their leadership of their team
  • Keeping the organisation abreast of current best practice through engaging self and others in ongoing professional development in aged care.
  • Supporting centres to ensure compliance to satisfying the accreditation standards as set by the Aged Care Safety and Quality Commission
  • Supporting and driving a culture of continuous improvement that has a strong customer service focus, is open & honest, positive in its approach, and solution-oriented
  • Meeting the financial expectations of the annual budget of the region under the Area Manager's control
  • Empower managers and ensure staff are provided with training and opportunities to develop and demonstrate their strengths and skills

To succeed in this role, you will need to have strong business acumen, financial skills, extensive experience in leading a team and a proven understanding of the aged care regulatory context.

It is essential that you have current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and ideally, additional post-graduate study in a relevant field such as Gerontology or Business Management. Personal resilience, realism and ability to adapt to the daily dynamic needs of our residents and the business are crucial personal attributes for success as an Area Manager.  You will be accountable for the performance of the Centres in your region across all performance criteria.  As the Centres are diverse in location, demographics and local communities, you should be adaptable, flexible, creative and willing to travel extensively, to provide wisdom and achieve the best outcomes for our residents and The Salvation Army.

As a talented communicator with exemplary leadership and change management skills, you will be able to represent The Salvation Army Aged Care in all contexts and with sensitivity to the needs of all people.

  • Senior leadership role - manage a geographically diverse porfolio totalling 650+ beds across 7 Aged Care Centres
  • Develop your leadership and mentoring skills - lead a team of dedicated and passionate Centre Managers
  • Values based organisation - Culture of empowerment, collaboration and accountability
  • Access to salary packaging and tool of trade vehicle (dependent on base location)
