Serenity House provides safe and appropriate immediate temporary supported accommodation, usually in a crisis or emergency situation, for women and children who are transitioning from homelessness or risk of homelessness to being housed.

In this role you will support single women and families to achieve housing stability, experience improved social inclusion and be equipped to live successfully in the community. This support is achieved through case management activities and working effectively with other members of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive client service within the values and mission of The Salvation Army.

Selection Criteria:

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Tertiary or other qualifications within Community Services, Social Work or similar discipline, or extensive relevant experience with a minimum of Diploma qualifications 
  • Applicants studying towards a relevant qualification may be considered for employment as an Associate Case Worker
  • Solid level of experience (minimum 2+ years) in the implementation of case management and systems for disadvantaged and/or complex needs clients.
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions.
  • Experience working in collaboration with other organisations to develop and tailor programs to meet clients’ needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with homelessness, substance abuse and psychiatric conditions.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and negotiate with a range of internal and external clients.
  • Highly effective planning, organisational, problem solving and evaluation skills.
  • Sound computer literacy.
  • Team player, energetic and flexible with a positive attitude.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate; Current Driver’s licence; Working with Children Check (blue card) or ability to obtain; and willing to undergo a National Police Check.
  • Flexibility with hours at times to meet the operational requirements of the role, including being part of an on-call roster.
