The Salvation Army [TSA] is seeking an experienced Media Advisor to provide ideas-to-implementation of media relations solutions across the breadth of the TSA’s operations.

You will create and deliver media engagement to enhance the profile and reputation of The Salvation Army’s mission, social services and fundraising campaigns and will build productive relationships with members of the media to benefit the work of TSA.

You will look after a portfolio and also coordinate responses to day to day media / social media enquiries and escalate media issues and enquiries to relevant level of leadership or other internal stakeholders as required.

The Media Advisor will report to the National Head of Media.

 

Key areas of accountability include: 

  • The provision of media relations advice, direction and outcomes to a portfolio of internal stakeholders.
  • Key development and implementation role in The Salvation Army’s iconic fundraising and awareness campaigns, under the guidance of the Executive Manager, Media Relations and Campaigns.
  • Respond to media calls in a timely manner, keeping colleagues across media interest and escalating as required.
  • Monitor media and social media channels to identify issues affecting The Salvation Army, and coverage related to The Salvation Army and communicate daily monitoring information with relevant key stakeholders.
  • Initiate and/or contribute to the creation and delivery of awareness campaigns in accordance with the TSA’s media strategy.
  • Develop positive relationships with media on behalf of The Salvation Army through efficient and professional contact.
  • Assist with crisis management of an issue when that occurs, including providing after hours support as able.


For this role you will have a minimum of 5 years full time experience as a media officer or journalist in media, government or corporate settings and a degree of Journalism, Media or relevant field would be preferable.

The position will be located in both Blackburn and Glen Waverley as required and will include occasional interstate travel.
