Mt Isa Recovery Services MIRS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residential AOD service.


About the Position

In this role, as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will provide support to clients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, specialised nursing intervention, clinical assessments, group work and referral for clients in a safe, sensitive and culturally appropriate manner which meets their immediate cultural, physical, mental and emotional needs.      


Essential Requirements include


  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Degree or equivalent in Nursing and Registration as per the Qld Nurses Registration Board.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Island cultures
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience and demonstrated competence in nursing in the alcohol and other drugs nursing environment, including working with people with mental health conditions.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of the National AOD guidelines and issues relating to withdrawal management.
  • Demonstrated skills in triage, medical assessment, decision making and providing appropriate nursing interventions and early identification and provision of crisis support.
  • Demonstrated competence in infection control procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to systematically address the complexity of problems associated with substance abuse and mental health conditions Maintain a current Drivers Licence.
  • Willingness to undertake a National Police Check.
  • Willing to work on weekends as per a roster.
